Add subtitles to a video
Upload a video and read its transcript here, with no account: the trial transcribes its first 10 minutes. Then keep it, and download the video as an MP4 with the captions burned into the picture.

Record
Your microphone, recorded in this browser.
Keep this page in front while you record. Switching to another app or locking the screen makes the browser stop the microphone, and what was missed can’t be recovered.
Keep this tab open while you record. If you close it or open another page in it, the recording is lost.
Auto detect can mishandle a recording that switches language.
Free: one recording up to 10 minutes · its transcript to read · no account · deleted after 48 hours
How it works
Upload the video
MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI and other common formats, up to 2000 MB. The first 10 minutes are transcribed, in any of 82 languages, with a time on every word. A longer video is cut there, and the transcript says where.
Read it, then keep it
The transcript comes back on this page, and any line plays the moment it came from. Under it, keep the transcript in an account — the page says what that takes — and open its Captions tab, where you can correct names, split and retime the captions, and choose how they look.
Render and download
In the Captions tab, press Render video and download an MP4 with the captions drawn into the picture, kept 7 days. Every plan renders up to 20 videos or 10 hours of video a month; a free account renders recordings up to 60 minutes long, Pro up to 2 hours.
How the captions look
By default the captions are white on a thin black outline at the bottom of the picture. Or choose the typeface (Noto Sans, Noto Serif, DejaVu Sans Mono, Noto Sans CJK SC, and Noto Serif CJK SC), the size (16–96 px of a 720-pixel-high frame), bold, the colours, the outline and shadow, a box behind the text, and top or bottom. The Captions tab previews the same style the render uses.
Questions
- Is it free?
- Uploading, and reading the transcript, is — with no account, for 48 hours; the trial transcribes the first 10 minutes of a video. Rendering the captioned video needs an account, and every plan — the free one included — renders up to 20 videos or 10 hours of video a month. What a longer recording costs is on the pricing page.
- Does it have to be a video?
- No. An audio file goes the same way, and the captions are drawn over a plain background, with a waveform if you want one. A video from a pasted link gives you the transcript and its subtitle files, not a captioned video: we keep no copy of it to draw on.
- Can I edit the captions before rendering?
- Yes, in your account. The Captions tab lists every caption with its times: split or join them, shift them, set the characters per line and the lines per caption, and correct the words in the transcript. The render uses the captions and the style as they are when you press Render.
- My video is longer than 10 minutes.
- The trial transcribes its first 10 minutes and the transcript says where it stops. Once it is in your account, you can transcribe the whole recording from there: a free account takes recordings up to 60 minutes, and longer ones need Pro.
- Can I get a subtitle file instead?
- Yes. SRT and VTT files download from the transcript in your account, with the same timings, for players and sites that take them.
- How long is the video kept?
- The trial’s file and transcript are deleted 48 hours after the upload unless kept. A rendered video is kept 7 days and then deleted; render it again any time within the month’s limits.
Already have the subtitles?
This page makes captions from what is said in the video. To convert a subtitle file you already have between SRT and VTT, or shift its timing, use the subtitle converter — it runs in your browser.
